Managing export control compliance as a component supplier

We manufacture precision optical components, and some of our products are now classified as dual-use items. Exporting them requires licences and careful screening of end users, which our small export team has never handled before.

We appointed a compliance officer, introduced customer screening against sanctions lists and added classification checks to the order process. Lead times increased because of licence processing. How do other suppliers manage export control obligations without slowing every order?
