Handling corrections transparently in a small newsroom

Our regional news site published a story with a wrong figure about a council budget. The error was fixed quickly, but readers accused us of quietly changing the article. Trust is our most valuable asset.

We now add a dated correction note at the bottom of every corrected article and keep a public corrections page. Editors also ask for a second check of figures before publication. How do other newsrooms handle corrections and communicate them to readers without drawing excessive attention?
